The development of social work programs in educational settings began with the recognition of the important role nonacademic factors play in a student's success in learning, social adjustment and growth. The Emanuel County School System has a full-time Social Worker (MSW) to assist students, parents, school personnel, agency staff, and other community resources in helping students reach their maximum potential in the educational process. The School Social Worker collaborates with the system's School Resource Officer to address such issues as truancy, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and parental involvement.

The Emanuel County CrossRoads Alternative Program exists to provide an alternative learning environment for students in grades 6 through 12 who have a history of chronic misbehavior, have had encounters with law enforcement, or have committed serious rule violations or criminal offenses at school or at school activities.
The CrossRoads Alternative School staff works hard to recognize the value of all our students and we endeavor to learn their strengths as well as their weaknesses in making appropriate choices in school, at home, on the job and as a member of our community.
Our students have the opportunity to change their direction in life as well as in school. Each student is given full responsibility for his behavior. The student's attitude, attendance and grades are determining factors for his/her return to his/her home school. We strive to enhance alternative school experience by providing our students with outside speakers and trips that build on our focus of character education and doing what's right to become a better person.
CrossRoads Alternative School is located at the former Twin City Elementary School in Twin City, Georgia.
