SPS uses Saxon Phonics. Students learn letters and letter sounds, and how to blend those sounds together to read words. Phonics is taught daily. Please check your child's folder and review these lessons as part of your after school routine.
Our Phonic lessons include the following letters and letter sounds.: Ll, Oo, Gg, Hh, Tt, Pp, Aa, Nn, and Mm. Students learn to blend the letter sounds to read words. Please continue to practice identifying letters of the alphabet and letter sounds.
To help beginning readers, Saxon uses "coding". One of the coding symbols we use is the breve. A breve (looks like a smile) over a vowel indicates the vowel is making the short vowel sound. As we build our phonetic skills we will learn more coding symbols.
