In August, we began learning about parts of a book - front cover, back cover, and spine.  We know that books are read from front cover to back cover, and printed pages are read from left to right.  We can identify the Title Page of a book and we know where to look for page numbers.  We discussed genre, characters, settings.  Students know that authors write the words of the story, and an illustrator draws the pictures for the story.  We also discussed the importance of adding details to stories and illustrations.

Our reading and writing lessons will soon intertwine.  Students will begin to write independently and create his/her own "story".  For now, continue to encourage your child's love for reading.
