SFC Nelson entered military service on 28 August 1990 from Memphis, TN. He completed Basic Combat Training and Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. His military schooling consists of Primary Leader Development Course, Basic Non-Commission Officer Course, Advance Non-Commission Officer Course, U.S. ARMY RECRUITING Course, Field Artillery Master Gunner Course, Combat Lifesavers Course, Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Training Course, Small Group Facilitator Course, Total Retention Course, Equal Opportunity Representatives Course, Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Course, Unit Victim Advocate Course, Army Safety Course, and the M109A6 PALADIN HOWITZER CREW Course.
He has served in a variety of duty positions to include, Howitzer Driver, Cannoneer, Ammo Team Chief, Gunner, Howitzer Section Chief, Recruiter, Platoon Sergeant, Assistance Operation Sergeant, and Advance NCO Course & Basic NCO Course Senior Small Group Leader. SFC Nelson is currently retired from the United State Army with 21 years of active services.
His duty assignments include the 5th Bn, 29th FA, Fort Carson, CO; the 2nd Bn, 3rd FA, Kirchgoens, Germany; the 4th Bn, 5th FA, the 4th Bn, 1st FA, Fort Riley, KS; Chicago Recruiting Bn, Fort Sheridan, IL; the 1st Bn, 41st FA, the 1st Bn, 76th FA, and the 4th BDE, Unit of Action, Iraq and Fort Stewart, GA; the Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Fort Sill, Ok; Columbia Recruiting BN, Fort Jackson, SC; His last assignment was with 1st BN, 6th FA, 3rd BDE, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Knox, KY, served as Assistance Operation Sergeant and BDE Equal Opportunity Representative. He is currently working as a Junior ROTC Instructor at Emanuel County Institute.

SFC Nelson is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and The Ancient Order of Saint Barbara.
SFC Nelson has an Associate Degree in General Studies and Bachelor Degree of Science in Business Management. He currently resides in Augusta, GA with his wife Ruthann and daughters Jayla and Janaya.
