Home School Information

The 2012 legislative session created House Bills 39 and 706, effective July 1, 2012. This new legislation moves the responsibility of home school student reporting and management from the local school system to the Georgia Department of Education.

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has developed a web-based system to efficiently comply with the new requirements. Parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to use the web-based system to submit their home school Declaration of Intent and attendance records. The GaDOE web-based system is located on the GaDOE homeschool webpage. Additional information about homeschooling and how to submit home school documentation is also available on the home school webpage. The GaDOE web-based system is not affiliated with any vendor offering services to home school parents/guardians.

For parents/guardians who do not wish to utilize the web-based system, the GaDOE will also provide for the paper submittal of home school documentation. Parents/guardians may submit their home school documentation via mail or fax to the GaDOE at the contact information below:

Georgia Department of Education

Atlanta, GA 30334
Fax: 770-344-4623

You can find a Declaration of Intent form here.

The GaDOE will be responsible for issuing Certificates of Attendance for home school students that are eligible for a learner’s permit, driver’s license, work permit, or as needed for other purposes.

Parents/guardians may request a Certificate of Attendance electronically using the web-based system
